About the role
Here at Babcock International we're looking to recruit a Senior Mechanical Engineer.

The Submarine Support Engineering (SSE) Mechanical Team provide mechanical engineering support for in-service and future submarines. The primary focus of the team is mechanical submarine systems and secondary submarine propulsion supporting both the ministry of defence and internal customers with opportunities to support on a wide range of projects across the enterprise.

The SSE mechanical team is a multi-disciplinary team from a variety of backgrounds which includes industry partners and is currently 16 strong with a future growth ambition.

We are currently looking for a Senior Engineer to join the team to lead engineering investigations, undertake analysis, manage design changes and associated project management of engineering projects.

You'll act as Lead Engineer for the specification, planning, execution and delivery of specific submarine design support / design change projects, conduct investigations, analysis and / or design studies as required by the Submarine Enterprise, carry out the development and/or maturing of technical solutions, associated specifications and technical reports, identify resource requirements and direct the services of other Senior Engineers, Engineers and Technical Assistants, as required, for the timely and successful execution of assigned tasks and act as a focal point within the team for identification of issues, risks and the associated potential technical and design solutions for In-Service Submarines.

* Management of sub-contractors as required to deliver specific task output
* Liaison with customers to develop work, understand issues and provide advice
* Coach and mentor junior members of the team
* Contribute to the assurance of technical information and documentation produced within the team
* Provide input and advice on resolution of technical issues and the direction of technical tasks.
* To provide technical support on mechanical design aspects to other Babcock Engineering Services projects and the wider Babcock Submarine Enterprise Teams

What do I need to do the role?
You will be minimum of degree qualification (ideally masters) in a relevant engineering discipline or have significant relevant domain engineering background.

Would also like you to hold experience in the following:
* Previous submarine knowledge and experience working with submarine systems is highly desirable.
* Ideally you will be a member of a relevant institution (e.g. IMechE, IMarEst etc.) and hold Chartered or Incorporated status and be working towards Chartered
* Experience of managing subcontractors is desirable.
* Ex-Submarine Operator experience is highly desirable

What else do I need to know?
* The post will be based in an environment regulated by Trade Control legislation and involves working with controlled goods, technology and/or services. You must hold current, active security clearance or be willing to undergo the necessary process to obtain security clearance.
